Ian Charter MacLaurin, Baron MacLaurin of Knebworth - Chairman
Ian has been both Chairman of Vodafone and Chairman and Chief Executive of Tesco. Ian’s career at Tesco began in 1959 and he had held a number of appointments before joining the board in 1970, became Managing Director in 1973, Deputy Chairman in 1983 and was Chairman from 1985 to 1997. Ian was knighted in 1989, and was created a life peer in 1996 taking the title Baron MacLaurin of Knebworth in the County of Hertfordshire. He is the former Chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board and former Chancellor of the University of Hertfordshire. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1986.
David Naish BSc
David spent 27 years as A Tax Partner and latterly Senior Partner in Bath based firms of Chartered Accountants. He now concentrates on a number of Non Executive Directorships. These have included successful periods as Chairman of Bath Building Society and The Unite Group PLC. He has been a Director of the Chartwell Group since its inception
David Ransome
David qualified as a Chartered Accountant before becoming Finance Director and Chief Operating Officer of The Unite Group plc, (a listed company developing and operating student accommodation). Since 2003 he has run his own business operating and developing hotels, as well as providing non executive director services for a number of growing businesses.
Executive Directors
Jim Grant – Chief Executive
Jim’s role is to provide strategy and direction to Chartwell Group. Jim was a founder director of the company, driven to provide long term, trusted relationships with clients and professional introducers.
David Childs – Chief Financial Officer
Previously David was Finance Director of the Welsh Development Agency, where for four years he led one of the leading Economic Development Agencies in Europe, through significant organisational change. Prior to this, David was with Cargill Inc, the US’s largest privately owned company; working as finance director starting up and growing a number of successful food businesses around the world.
